Robert S. Hilbert Memorial Student Travel Grant
Travel grant as part of the OSA Foundation supports research excellence of students in the areas of optical engineering, lens design and illumination design. Visit the OSA web site for details and application deadlines.
The Optical Solutions Group at Synopsys, formerly Optical Research Associates (ORA®), sponsors the Robert S. Hilbert Memorial Student Travel Grant as part of the Optical Society of America (OSA) Foundation, whose mission includes supporting programs that advance optics education and provide career and professional development resources.
The Robert S. Hilbert Memorial Student Travel Grant offers financial support to help defray the cost of student travel to optics conferences and professional meetings. The grant was established in honor of Bob Hilbert (1941-2008), former ORA President and CEO, who was a respected member of the optics community and enthusiastically embraced learning and optics education.
In 2013, students can apply for the Robert S. Hilbert Memorial Student Travel Grant to attend the Imaging and Applied Optics Congress in Arlington, Virginia (June 23-27, 2013), the Frontiers in Optics conference in Orlando, Florida (October 6-10, 2013), and the Optics for Solar Energy (SOLAR) meeting in Tucson, Arizona (November 3-7, 2013). Applicant criteria include:
- Applicant must be the presenter of an accepted paper; preference is given to oral presentations, but posters are eligible as well.
- Applicant must be an undergraduate or graduate student of an educational institution of collegiate grade who is devoting more than half-time to studies within the institution, at the time the paper was written.
- Accepted paper/poster must include research in the areas of optical engineering, lens design and/or illumination design.
