LightTools Version 5.0 Accelerates Illumination System Development
March 2004 - ORA is pleased to announce the release ofLightTools Version 5.0, which adds raytracing shortcut capabilities that dramatically increase the speed of this popular illumination design and analysis software package.Specifically, the Accelerated Ray Tracing option increases ray trace speed from 4x to 60x or more, depending on the model, and is particularly useful for systems containing many spline surfaces, such as those imported from CAD systems via STEP or IGES format files.LightTools’ Accelerated Ray Tracing feature will be instrumental in reducing designers’ development time and speeding time to market for all types of luminaires, automotive interior and exterior lighting,as well as LCD backlights for cell phones, PDAs, and laptop computers.
LightTools 5.0 also simplifies access to user-written macros by enabling them to be added to the program’s menus. In addition, efficiency enhancements to the macro language deliver more powerful analysis capabilities. A new pop-up chart feature enables any list or spreadsheet of data produced by the software to be displayed in a line or surface chart.
