ORA Names George Bayz President and Chief Executive Officer
January 2009 - Optical Research Associates (ORA®), a leading provider of optical design software and optical engineering services, has named George Bayz as the company’s new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Bayz succeeds former President and CEO Robert Hilbert, who passed away in December 2008.
“While we are sad to have lost Bob Hilbert, who was a key member of our team since 1975, we are also fortunate to have George Bayz as our new President and CEO,” said Thomas Harris, ORA Founder and Chairman of the Board. “With more than 18 years’ senior management experience in high technology firms, George brings the leadership skills, dynamism, and background needed to continue ORA’s successes. I am confident that he will make outstanding contributions to ORA in the years to come.”
Bayz comes to ORA with executive management experience at four different software companies, including: President and CEO of PeoplePoint Systems, Inc., an enterprise software company; General Manager and Executive Vice President at Artemis International Solutions Corp., a provider of advanced project management solutions; President and CEO of Thinque Systems, a workforce automation solutions provider; and President and CEO of MAI Systems Corporation, a provider of information technology to the hospitality industry. Bayz received a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California and a J.D. from Loyola Marymount University. He is a Member of the California Bar, and is a California Certified Public Accountant.
Bayz has served on the ORA Board of Directors since 1999, which meets six times a year to provide corporate governance oversight and to review and help shape business initiatives. Bayz has served as Chairman of the Audit Committee as well since 1999, which provides oversight of the reporting practices of the company and the quality and integrity of the company’s financial reports.
“As a member of ORA’s active Board of Directors for nine years, George has an excellent understanding of the ORA business, staff, and culture,” said Thomas Harris. “He is committed to the core values of ORA, which place customer success as our highest goal.”
“I am very excited about the opportunity to serve as ORA’s President and CEO at a time when ORA continues to expand its international customer base and provide innovative, groundbreaking optical solutions,” said Bayz. “I look forward to building on ORA’s accomplishments to provide even more value for our customers.”
