About Optical Research Associates, Now Part of Synopsys
At the Forefront of the Optics Industry
Optical Research Associates (ORA®) is now part of Synopsys, Inc., a world leader in electronic design automation (EDA), supplying the global electronics market with the software, intellectual property (IP) and services used in semiconductor design, verification and manufacturing. Visit Synopsys online at www.synopsys.com.
In October 2010, Synopsys acquired ORA, representing Synopsys’ initial move into the optics industry and aligning with the company's strategy to expand its total addressable market into areas that are naturally adjacent to traditional EDA.
With the CODE V® and LightTools® software products, Synopsys will continue ORA’s long history as one of the world’s leading developers of optical design and analysis software.
The Engineering Services group will continue as the largest independent supplier of optical systems design, with more than 4,800 completed projects in imaging, illumination, and optical systems engineering.
Some fast facts:
- ORA was founded in 1963 to provide leading-edge optical design services.
- Our optics staff includes over 50 engineers – 11 of whom hold Ph.D.'s in optics – including members of a dedicated technical support staff available to all users of CODE V and LightTools.
