We are pleased to announce the availability of the following new resources on our Customer Portal to help you learn more about LightTools.
In this issue:
New Task Lighting Video Demonstrations
Now available on our Customer Portal is a three-part video series demonstrating the general workflow to set up and analyze an illumination system in LightTools, using a task lighting design as an example. The series will teach you the basic controls and skills to:
- Import geometry
- Assign optical properties
- Add realistic light sources for analyzing an illumination distribution
- Conceptualize an illumination system using a photorealistic rendering
Part 1: Import geometry using a STEP file and set surface properties (6 minutes)

Part 2: Add LED sources and receiver and analyze simulation results (10 minutes)

Part 3: Use photorealistic rendering to view what the cooktop might look like when built (6 minutes)

New Training Course Notes
The latest LightTools training course notes are now available for download from the Customer Portal. These new materials provide many examples of how to use LightTools to develop illumination applications and automate tasks:
- The LightTools introduction course notes are now completely application based and present key LightTools concepts in the context of designing various common illumination systems. Workshop files are included to support the examples presented.
- The COM macro programming course notes provide a practical overview of how to leverage the robust LightTools COM interface to automate design tasks and speed model development. Workshop files are included to help you get started.
Course notes and workshop files that provide a detailed introduction to the use of LightTools. Includes the following sections:
- Building and Simulating a Task Lighting Model
- LED Collimator Optic
- Uniform Intensity LED Lamp
- Modeling and Integrating Components in a Projector
- Solar Array Modeling and Analysis
- Backlight Design and Optimization
- Building and Simulating an LED Gas Station Canopy Luminaire
- Workshop files, including sample IGES and STEP import files
Course notes and workshop files that provide an introduction to COM macro programming using Excel Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
