LightTools 7.0 Service Release 1 (SR1) Is Available for Download
We are pleased to announce the availability of the LightTools 7.0 SR1. This service release patch corrects over 20 customer-reported bugs, including:
- Fixes a bug that caused inconsistent display of receiver filter data in the System Navigator.
- Resolves a bug where rotating the zone of an elliptical scatterer failed to rotate the scatter pattern.
- Corrects a problem that prevented the Fresnel Lens utility from working correctly without a license for the Optimization Module.
- Fixes rendering performance issues when running LightTools under Windows 7
- Fixes a bug which caused superconic lens surfaces from sometimes tracing correctly in Precision Ray Trace mode.
- Implements faster loading of LightTools models (.lts files) that contain user-defined optical properties.
- Includes bug fixes in the Solar Tracking utility, DXF Import/Export utilities, and the Filament modeling utility.
- Fixes a crashing bug that occurred when evaluating an optimization merit function using either the COM interface or Parameter Sensitivity utility.
We strongly encourage all LightTools 7.0 users to apply this patch.
Quick Tip – Defining a Circular Ray Fan in LightTools
The default point-and-shoot ray grid in LightTools has a square footprint. If your model is rotationally symmetric, this may not be the most efficient ray pattern to use. You can easily change a square ray grid to circular by changing the grid's Fan Spacing from Linear to Equi-cosine. The image below shows two ray grids with identical subtended angles propagating into a lens with a circular aperture. The linear ray grid has extra rays that leak around the circular aperture of the lens. Using an equi-cosine ray grid allows you to more easily control the ray fan so that only rays that pass through the circular aperture of the lens are traced.
