LightTools 6.1 Service Release 3

We are pleased to announce the availability of the latest LightTools Service Release, version 6.1 SR3.  This Service Release is a bug fix patch that includes fixes to over 30 customer reported bugs and suggested enhancements since the previous SR2 download.  The LightTools 6.1 SR3 patch can be downloaded from http://www.opticalres.com/ltdownloads_f.html. This patch requires LightTools 6.1 , 6.1 SR1, or 6.1 SR2 already be installed on your PC.  We strongly encourage you to download and apply this patch.

The LightTools 6.1 SR3 patch provides the following fixes:

  • Fixes a bug that prevented saved ray data from being restored with models created in earlier versions of LightTools
  • Fixes a bug that could cause a small power loss during ray tracing of phosphor materials when the Probabilistic Ray Split option was used.
  • Fixes a bug in which models that were saved with the Save Ray Data option disabled did not display all receiver mesh data properly when the model was later re-opened in version 6.1.0.
  • Resolves an issue that occasionally caused LightTools to hang when the Progress dialog box was paused during macro processing.
  • Implements an improvement where the Progress dialog box remains in the background (i.e., not active) during COM processing.
  • Fixes a bug in which the STEP export module incorrectly handled European decimal separators.
  • Resolves a bug that occasionally caused the LumViewer to be disabled when a surface receiver or mesh was selected.
  • Resolves an issue in which an optical path filter did not work correctly with the Coherent Mode switch for illumination simulations.
  • Fixes a bug in which a ray data source with a weight factor of greater than or less than 1 yielded an incorrect power value.
  • Fixes a crashing bug that occurred when opening via macro a LightTools model containing an aim cone.
  • Fixes a bug where using an aim area with a volume source could sometimes give incorrect results.
  • Fixes a crashing bug that could sometimes occurred when ray tracing a model that includes a spline sweep reflector surface.
  • Resolves an issue where LightTools would round off small values (e.g., 1e-5) in user-defined scattering data.
  • Fixes a bug in which changes to the X and Y coefficients of an XY polynomial surface would also modify the coordinates of the lens.
  • Fixes a bug where "overlapping surface" error messages could occur when ray tracing immersed objects that include asymmetric texture patterns.
  • Fixes a crashing bug that could occur when running a simulation with the Collect Ray Path Data if all available memory was exhausted.
  • Fixes a bug where the subsampling of ray data sources during a Distributed Simulation would lead to incorrect results.
  • Fixes a bug in which the LumViewer displayed incorrect luminance and illuminance data when the smoothing level was set to maximum.
  • Fixes a bug in which the Print to File and Plot to File options were unable to create .bmp files on Japanese operating systems.
  • Fixes an issue in which LightTools could incorrectly modify receiver mesh extents during optimization when a user-defined merit function was used.
  • Resolves inconsistencies between the number of bumps shown in the Placement List tab and the number of bumps listed in the text file produced with the Save Parameter/Placement Data option.
  • Resolves an issue in which minimum and maximum illuminance mesh values were sometimes incorrect on the Results tab of the Properties dialog box when YZ and XZ symmetry were selected.
  • Fixes an error that occurred when using the STEP export capability's Export Selected Entities Only option, where grouped objects were not exported.
  • Fixes a crashing bug that sometimes occurred when changing spline patch surface U,V coordinates.
  • Provides clearer warning messages for collimated sources where the Power Extent is set to Whole Sphere, and, in these cases, automatically resets the Power Extent to Aim Region.

We strongly encourage all LightTools users to download and install this latest service release.
