LightTools 6.1 Service Release 2

We are pleased to announce the availability of the latest LightTools Service Release, version 6.1 SR2.  This Service Release is a bug fix patch that can be downloaded from http://www.opticalres.com/ltdownloads_f.html. This patch requires LightTools 6.1 or 6.1 SR1 already be installed on your PC.  We strongly encourage you to download and apply this patch.

The LightTools 6.1 SR2 patch provides the following fixes:

  • Fixes a bug where models that included phosphor or GRIN materials were not ray traced during a distributed simulation.
  • Resolves an issue where distributed simulations could fail intermittently with the message Negative acknowledgement received for FIN event…Server has been marked unavailable for distributed simulation. This bug was most prevalent on 8-core machines when running large numbers of rays with the Save Ray Data option turned on, but could also occur under other circumstances.
  • Fixes a bug that could cause a crash when running Optimization using distributed simulations for some models.
  • Fixes a bug where the Reset Random Seed option did not work for illumination simulations.
  • Fixes a bug where invoking the Focus/Collimate merit function, prior to tracing any rays, could cause LightTools to crash.
  • Fixes a scatter discontinuity issue that occurred for very small MIE particles, which could lead to incorrect results.
  • Fixes a MIE scattering bug that led to incorrect results for materials with substantial absorption.
  • Resolves a bug where some elements were not correctly rendered immediately after a Circular Array command.
  • Resolves an issue in which the Properties dialog box navigation tree was not updating properly when a receiver was added to a surface.
  • Resolves an issue that could cause LightTools to occasionally hang when run via COM. This issue was also sometimes encountered during Parameter Sensitivity analyses.
  • Fixes a bug where textures on a cylindrical surface were not always retained properly if the model was saved and reopened.
  • Addresses an issue where the new Progress dialog box, introduced in version 6.1, becomes the active window (pops to the front) at the start of a COM macro. Users can now suppress the Progress dialog box using the following command:
Call LT.SetOption("SHOWDIALOGS",0)

And re-activate it using:

Call LT.SetOptions("SHOWDIALOGS",1)

Invoking the LT.End command should also not be used to suppress the dialog box.

We strongly encourage all LightTools users to download and install this service release.

LightTools SolidWorks Link Module – Free Beta

A Beta release of the new LightTools SolidWorks® Link module is available to all current commercial customers via ORA’s Customer Service Web site, www.oraservice.com

LightTools' SolidWorks Link Module establishes a direct connection between SolidWorks and LightTools.   If changes are made to the model in SolidWorks, these changes can be communicated directly to LightTools, where the LightTools model is updated accordingly while retaining its previously assigned optical properties.  Similarly, changes made to the SolidWorks model parameters in LightTools can be transferred directly to SolidWorks where the model is automatically updated.  When working with the LightTools SolidWorks Link Module, the SolidWorks feature-tree hierarchy is visible in the LightTools System Navigator, providing SolidWorks users with a familiar user-interface.

The LightTools SolidWorks Link Module is also supported when using LightTools Optimization Module.  Any changes made to parameters of a linked SolidWorks model during the optimization process are automatically updated in SolidWorks to maintain common geometry in both software packages.

We are pleased to offer current LightTools users a no-charge Beta license of the SolidWorks Link Module through the end of 2008. This new module is available in LightTools 6.1.5 Beta, which can be downloaded from ORA's Customer Service Web site, at www.oraservice.com.  This download includes Release Notes that describe the features of this new Module.  A short training video is also available for viewing on the Customer Service Web site. We strongly encourage you to view this video before using it.

Interested users will need to obtain a license file to activate LightTools 6.1.5 Beta by contacting ORA (service@opticalres.com) or your local ORA Software Distributor.  Please include your LightTools USB dongle number, or floating license hostname, when requesting a 6.1.5 Beta license file.
