Beta Release of New LightTools SolidWorks® Link Module

We are pleased to announce the availability of a Beta release of a new LightTools module that provides a direct link between LightTools and SolidWorks.  LightTools’ SolidWorks Link Module allows you to dynamically link SolidWorks opto-mechanical models to LightTools, where you can assign optical properties, optimize, and directly update your SolidWorks model.

The new LightTools SolidWorks Link Module is different from traditional LightTools data exchange modules where changes made to the model in the originating CAD software required its optical properties to be redefined when the modified model was imported back to LightTools.

LightTools’ SolidWorks Link Module establishes a direct connection between SolidWorks and LightTools.   If changes are made to the model in SolidWorks, these changes can be communicated directly to LightTools, where the LightTools model is updated accordingly while retaining its previously assigned optical properties.  Similarly, changes made to the SolidWorks model parameters in LightTools can be transferred directly to SolidWorks where the model is automatically updated.  When working with the LightTools SolidWorks Link Module, the SolidWorks feature-tree hierarchy is visible in the LightTools System Navigator, providing SolidWorks users with a familiar user-interface.

The LightTools SolidWorks Link Module is also supported when using LightTools Optimization Module.  Any changes made to parameters of a linked SolidWorks model during the optimization process are automatically updated in SolidWorks to maintain common geometry in both software packages.

We are pleased to offer current LightTools users a no-charge Beta license of the SolidWorks Link Module through the end of 2008. This new module is available in LightTools 6.1.5 Beta, which can be downloaded from ORA’s Customer Service Web site, at www.oraservice.com.  This download includes Release Notes that describe the features of this new Module.  A short training video is also available for viewing on the Customer Service Web site. We strongly encourage you to view this video before using it.

Interested users will need to obtain a license file to activate LightTools 6.1.5 Beta by contacting ORA (service@opticalres.com) or your local ORA Software Distributor.  Please include your LightTools USB dongle number, or floating license hostname, when requesting a 6.1.5 Beta license file.

If you have any questions regarding this new capability, please email us at service@opticalres.com.  We look forward to hearing from you!
