Quick Tip: Simplifying Your Lens Data Manager

A helpful customization you can apply to your CODE V session’s Lens Data Manager (LDM) window is to blank out any cells labeling a surface as a spherical surface type, or refract as the refract mode. This makes it more apparent which surfaces are non-spherical, and which surfaces are reflective. The customization is particularly helpful when you frequently work with lenses that contain a mixture of surface types and refract modes.

For example, the default LDM for a three-mirror anastigmat looks like the following, where the Surface Type column displays “Sphere” for the spherical surfaces, and “Refract” for the refractive surfaces.

The object, stop, and image surfaces are each spherical and refractive. When the “Sphere” surface types and “Refract” refract modes are blanked out, it’s visually easier to see that surfaces 2 through 4 are aspheric surfaces and mirrors, as in the following figure.

To display the Sphere and Refract cells as blank, go to the Tools>Preferences menu, and select the Display “Spherical” Surface Type as Blank and Display “Refract” Refract Mode as Blanks checkboxes in the UI window.

This setting will persist the next time you open CODE V.
