CODE V User Survey - We would like your feedback

We would like to invite you to participate in the CODE V User Satisfaction survey.  This year, we will be asking questions about your satisfaction with the software, Tech Support, and Documentation.  Also included are some questions about what features of the software you use most.  We expect the survey to take 12-15 minutes to complete.

As a token of our appreciation, all respondents to the survey will get their choice of a gift from ORA.  You can choose either an illuminated optical loupe, or a keychain toolkit shown below.

Click here to take the CODE V Survey

*Note: If you are unable to complete the survey after you have started, you can come back at another time and the survey will remember the responses you've already entered up to that point.

We look forward to seeing your responses and hearing your feedback.  Thank you in advance for taking the survey.

Quick Tips – Bounding Boxes and Macro Editor

Bounding Boxes: In order to provide significant flexibility when designing optical systems that include complex surface shapes, CODE V supports a "bounding box" that can be defined on surfaces to limit possible ray-surface intersection locations.  This allows the user to indicate the desired ray-surface intersection whenever a ray can intersect the surface at more than one valid point.  A new presentation has been developed by the CODE V Technical Support team, Introduction to Surface Bounding Boxes,  that provides information on when bounding boxes should be used and how best to use them. This presentation is available on the ORA Customer Service Web site, www.oraservice.com, under CODE V Support > Training Course Notes.

Macro Editor: An updated presentation on using PSPad for writing macros in CODE V has been added under CODE V Support > Tech Support FAQs > Macro-PLUS FAQs.  PSPad, a free-ware editor, supports many useful features such as auto-coloring recognized CODE V commands, auto-completion of macro functions, file browsing, and more.  Please refer to this updated presentation for more details.

CODE V 10.1 Service Release

The latest CODE V Service Release, version 10.1 SR1, was announced in mid-September.  If you have not already downloaded and applied this update, we encourage you to do so (you must have version 10.1 already installed on your PC in order to apply this patch).

Download the CODE V update

The CODE V 10.1 SR1 patch includes the following bug fixes:

  • Fixes a bug in which the Fiber Coupling Efficiency (CEF) feature computed incorrect results when using Beam Synthesis Propagation (BSP) vector field input, and the complex field information lacked rotational symmetry (e.g., typical for off-axis field points).
  • Fixes a bug in which the BSP feature's initial fit of a Gaussian beam in the far field was incorrect for vector fields.
  • Fixes a bug that caused the BSP feature to model left-handed elliptical or circular polarization states incorrectly.
  • Resolves an issue where mid-spatial-frequency data applied to a surface was not saved with lens (.len) files.
  • Fixes a bug in which the Wavefront Analysis (WAV) feature did not properly list the shifts between the centroid and center of the reference sphere, when the center of the reference sphere was set using chief ray aiming applied to the image surface (CRA Si).
  • Resolves an issue that caused CODE V to list incorrect zoomed surface data parameters after a surface shape had been converted from Y toroid (YTO) to anamorphic asphere (AAS).
  • Fixes a bug in the Ray Aberration Curves (RIM) feature where the Plot Type in X-Y Orientation (TYP) command did not work correctly for zoomed systems.
  • Fixes a bug where CODE V 10.1 would sometimes hang when exiting, requiring the user to stop the CODE V process from the Windows Task Manager.

Updates to the Customer Support Web Site

The following updates have been made to ORA's Customer Support web site, www.oraservice.com, under CODE V Support:

  • Under CODE V Enews & Tips:
    • The June 2009 issue of CODE V Enews featuring a tip on transferring GUI settings after updating to a new version of CODE V.
    • The July 2009 issue of CODE V Enews featuring a 30 minute training video on using CODE V’s Field Map analysis (FMA) feature.
    • The September 2009 issue of CODE V Enews featuring an overview of CODE V 10.1.  It also references 3 new training videos describing some of the new features in 10.1, including an overview of the new Beam Synthesis Propagation (BSP) feature.
  • Copies of the CODE V 10.1 Release Notes have been added under Release Notes.  Included are separate Beta Release Notes for the new PSD-Based Mid-Spatial-Frequency Surface Error Modeling in BSP.
  • As described above, a new presentation, Introduction to Surface Bounding Boxes, has been added under Training Course Notes.
  • As described above, and updated presentation on using PSPad as a CODE V macro editor has been added under Tech Support FAQs > Macro-PLUS FAQs.
