Quick Tip – CODE V Training Materials – Additional Resources for Effective Use of CODE V
There are several CODE V Training Course presentations available to users on ORA's Customer Service area of the web (www.oraservice.com). These presentations are the same materials as those given at ORA sponsored training classes and cover a wide range of topics. They are provided on the Customer Service web site to give users additional resources on using CODE V more effectively. They are available under CODE V Support > Training Course Notes and include:
- Introduction to CODE V: This training class covers the basics on modeling, analyzing, optimizing, and tolerancing image forming optical systems using CODE V, including hands-on workshop problems and their solutions. Section 2 presents a detailed design study of a digital camera lens including defining, analyzing, optimizing, and tolerancing the system. Even experienced CODE V users may benefit from some of the sections of the introductory materials, such as Section 3 which includes information on customizing the CODE V workspace. These materials have been recently updated to include version 9.70 enhancements, including CODE V's new Image Simulation feature (IMS).
- Advanced Topics in CODE V: This training class is aimed at more experienced CODE V users and covers specific topics such as Advance Optimization Techniques, Beam Propagation, Environmental Analysis, CODE V's Macro Programming language and COM/API feature, Polarization Analysis, User-defined features, and more. Each section includes hands-on work shop problems, with solutions. These materials have been recently updated to include version 9.70 enhancements.
- Topics in Tolerancing: This one-day training class covers both introductory and advance topics related to CODE V's powerful tolerancing capabilities.
- Designing Photonic Systems in CODE V: This short course gives an overview of CODE V features for modeling and analyzing photonics systems. Topics include a ball lens design study, a GRIN lens coupler design study, information on modeling fibers and multimode step-index & GRIN fiber coupling, and an overview of macros supplied with CODE V for photonics applications. Workshop problems and solutions are included.
- Cell Phone Zoom Lens Design Study: This application specific training presentation covers the process of designing cell phone zoom lenses starting with a 5 element form from an existing patent, optimizing, analyzing, and tolerancing this starting form, and introducing a 6th element to reduce tolerance sensitivity. It also discusses using CODE V's Global Synthesis to investigate alternate design forms and presents trade-offs of the various design forms that an optical designer should consider. Workshop problems and solutions are included.
- Design of Dual-Zone Hybrid Aspheric/Diffractive DVD/CD Pickup Lenses: This presentation gives an overview of DVD/CD pickup optical technology and issues, and an overview of CODE V features applicable to DVD/CD pickup lens design.
- Nonsequential Surface Case Study – Dual Aperture Stellar Interferometer: This presentation provides a case study in using CODE V's Non-Sequential Surface Modeling, including potential pitfalls, diagnosing problems, and analysis results not possible with a sequential model.
We will continue to provide additional training materials as they become available. If you have any specific topics you'd like to suggest, please let us know by emailing service@opticalres.com.
Updates to ORA's Customer Service Web Site
The following additions have been recently made to ORA's Customer Service area of the web, www.oraservice.com under CODE V Support:
- The May issue of CODE V Enews, which featured a Tip on effective use of CODE V's defaults file, has been added under CODE V Enews & Tips.
- The newglassprv.seq macro has been updated to include Ohara glasses S-NBH55, S-LAH71, and S-LLH84. This macro provides a stopgap for new materials until they are added into the CODE V glass catalog. The macro can be downloaded under Macros and User-defined Feature Downloads > CODE V Macros from ORA Tech Support.
- A new version of TESGLASS has added under Macros and User-defined Feature Downloads > Updated Macros. This macro is similar to CODE V's TEStplate option, except for glasses. Previously, the macro required the user to create a list of specific glasses to use during the fitting process. While this is still supported, the updated version allows users to specify a manufacturer's catalog be used as the list of available glasses (i.e. schott).
- The CODE V Introductory and Advanced Topics training materials (as described above) have been updated to include features in version 9.70, including the new Image Simulation (IMS) feature. These materials can be accessed under Training Course Notes.
